Book Beginnings Friday: Henry VIII's Wives: History in an Hour

Please join Rose City Reader every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.  Please remember to include the title of the book and the author.

I'm reading Henry VIII's Wives: History in an Hour by Julie Wheeler:

The reign of Henry VIII was one of the most revolutionary periods in English history. The king's obsessive search for true love and intense desire for a male heir led to England's break from teh rule of Catholicism and the complete Reformation of the Church.

I am a huge historical fiction fan, particularly anything having to do with the Tudors. I saw this book on someone's blog and decided that even though it's non-fiction, I would give it a chance. I'm so glad I did. I've read many books about the different wives of Henry VIII, but never one that includes all six. Hopefully I will be finishing book up today or tomorrow - I like the idea that it's a short book, but I've only read it in little snatches here and there and have no idea if it only takes an hour to read.

If you read non-fiction, have you read of the History in an Hour books?

  1. What a neat meme. this looks like an interesting book, I have been trying to read more non-fiction and enjoy historical and cultural fiction too.
