Flora Dane is a victim.

Seven years ago, carefree college student Flora was kidnapped while on spring break. For 472 days, Flora learned just how much one person can endure.

Flora Dane is a survivor.

Miraculously alive after her ordeal, Flora has spent the past five years reacquainting herself with the rhythms of normal life, working with her FBI victim advocate, Samuel Keynes. She has a mother who’s never stopped loving her, a brother who is scared of the person she’s become, and a bedroom wall covered with photos of other girls who’ve never made it home.

Flora Dane is reckless.

. . . or is she? When Boston detective D. D. Warren is called to the scene of a crime—a dead man and the bound, naked woman who killed him—she learns that Flora has tangled with three other suspects since her return to society. Is Flora a victim or a vigilante? And with her firsthand knowledge of criminal behavior, could she hold the key to rescuing a missing college student whose abduction has rocked Boston? When Flora herself disappears, D.D. realizes a far more sinister predator is out there. One who’s determined that this time, Flora Dane will never escape. And now it is all up to D. D. Warren to find her.

My thoughts: This is one of my favorite series and in my mind, keeps getting better and better! With this latest one, I feel that Lisa Gardner has given us not only a chilling thriller, but has really shown us just how far our beloved Detective DD Warren has come - there is so much character growth here.

One of the things I love about this series is that it's so hard to guess what is going to come next. Lisa Gardner is one of the queens of the crazy twists and turns and this book is full of them. Every time I thought I had even the slightest idea of what might possibly happen next, I was thrown for a loop...and I loved it. This is why I love reading/listening to these types of books - they keep me on my toes and keep me completely engaged in what I'm reading.

I also love how these books invoke such an emotional response...Flora was kidnapped, but refuses to be defined by her experiences. She is certainly a flawed character, yet you can't help but empathize for what she's been through - those descriptions that Lisa writes of her being held in a box - OMG...I felt the panic and anxiety myself! But is Flora the victim here or is there more going on than meets the eye?

Detective DD Warren is a no-nonsense, let's get this case solved kinda gal, but she's been sidelined with an injury and is off active duty, supposedly (wink, wink!) . She's now in a supervisory position and is supposed to be on desk duty - not that anything is really going to keep her from actively pursuing a lead. But, she is able to think, and that may be her greatest asset!

Throughout the entire book, I felt myself on the edge of my seat...the pacing, the topics, the suspense - this is the type of book that you might not want to be reading/listening to late at night as you might have a hard time putting down...I ended up listening to it in one day as I had to know what was going to happen next and how it was all going to end. This was one twisted, crazy book and I cannot wait until the next one comes out!!!

Audio thoughts:
I've listened to Kirsten Potter a few times and always enjoy her narrations. In this case, I think she did a fantastic job - she really made very clear distinctions between Flora's parts and DD's parts - it was quite chilling how different it really was! This was such a great book to listen to!

  1. I really liked Find Her too. It had a bit different vibe than the rest of the series but I think it was perfect for where DD is :)
