Review: No Way Back: A DCI Helen Grace Short Story by M.J. Arlidge

Title: No Way Back: A DCI Helen Grace Short Story
Author: M.J. Arlidge
Published: August 2016, Penguin
Format: E-book, 54 pages
Source: Personal Copy

Jodie's arriving at her third children's home. She's only fifteen. Maybe this time will be different. She'll be safe. Looked after.

But the truth is Jodie has no one left to protect her. She must defend herself. She must change.

My thoughts: I absolutely love M.J. Arlidge's Helen Grace series and have devoured books 1-4 (and am currently in the middle of book 5, which comes out 10/4 here in the states!). So of course, when I heard from my dear from Laura, another die-hard Helen Grace fan, about this short story, I had to put down my current read to pick this one up...and trust me, it was well-worth it!!!

This short short, without giving away any details, provides us with so many background details about Helen's childhood. It allows us to know Helen at a deeper level, getting this intimate snapshot of her life, allowing us to understand why she is the way she is.

I'm not sure when this is really supposed to fit in the series, but it does seem to make sense where I read it - and maybe even it would have made sense after this book. Either way...I'm really glad to have stumbled upon it...it definitely provides a new perspective on a beloved character!

Books in this series:
  1. Eeny Meeny
  2. Pop Goes the Weasel
  3. The Doll's House
  4. Liar Liar
  5. Little Boy Blue
  6. Hide and Seek
