Musing Mondays 3-15-10

Musing Mondays2Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about picture books.
Do you have a favourite picture book, either from your own childhood, or reading to you children?
PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Musing Mondays post, or share your opinion in a comment here (if you don’t have a blog). Thanks.

**MUSING MONDAYS is hosted by Rebecca at Just One More Page...

I love picture books and have quite a collection of my own (being a teacher will do that). I think at last count I have over 1000 picture books. I love using pictures to teach - there are so many lessons to be gained using an engaging picture book over plain text books or worksheets.

I remember my dad, who was also a teacher, always reading a new picture book to us kids (I'm the oldest of seven) at the dinner table. I also remember always getting stacks of picture books at Christmas and for my birthdays when I was young.

My absolute favorite picture book from when I was young was The Mitten by Alvin Tresselt. I always remembered the turquoise and orange colors from the cover. Based on these colors, I was able to go online and find this book many years later, as it had been lost.

Some of my favorites today include Karma Wilson's Bear series and of course Jane O'Connor's Fancy Nancy series.

What about you? Do you have any favorite picture books?

  1. The Mitten looks familiar. Bear Wants More has a great cover.

  2. Cute books. I never heard of them.I don't remember much about any picture books in my childhood. Here'smine

  3. Does the "Bear Wants more" series have a Christmas Story? I think I have it... Love the illustrations in that one.

  4. I just sent a copy of The Mitten to each of my grandnieces children, I love that book too.

  5. I love the classics. Cat in the Hat, Where the Wild Things Are, but one of my all time favorites is The Princess Knight by Cornelia Funke ( ).

    LOVE this!
