Review: The Diva Digs Up the Dirt by Krista Davis

The Diva Digs Up the Dirt by Krista Davis
Berkley Publishing Group
June 2012
Format: Paperback, 290 pages

First line: Dear Sophie, my mother-in-law is an avid gardener who makes her own herbal teas.

From the back cover: Trouble in spades... Determined not to be a garden-variety diva, Sophie Winston's neighbor, Natasha, cultivates a plan to shine on television - using Sophie's backyard. As the cast and crew of the makeover show "Tear It Up With Troy" bulldoze through her backyard - and vacation - Sophie retreats to her perennial boyfriend Wolf's to replace a dead rosebush. But her tender deed goes awry when she digs up a purse belonging to Wolf's missing wife.

As speculations sprout, Wolf bolts, and then a body crops up in a garden. Is Wolf's thorny past raising a dead head? This is one case the domestic diva can't let wither on the vine...

My thoughts: This is the 6th book in Krista Davis' Domestic Diva Mystery series and it seems this series just keeps getting better and better.

Once again, Natasha is up to her usual tricks - everything being about her! This time around, she arranges for Sophie's backyard to be torn-up for a network tv show and then tries to get a network show of her own. Not wanting to be around while her backyard is destroyed, Sophie heads to her boyfriend Wolf's house to plant a rose bush and while digging in the dirt, uncovers his missing wife's purse. Between the purse and then stumbling upon a dead body on Roscoe Greene's property, Sophie finds herself right in the middle of another mystery.

I love this series and I love that the characters we've come to love are usually present in all the books. There are some major changes in store for Sophie with the events at the end of this book and it will be interesting to see how things play out in the next installment of this series.

One of my favorite parts of this series is the alternating advice letters from Sophie and Natasha that open each chapter. They usually have to do with the overall theme of the book, this time being gardening and as someone who does not have a green thumb, I found the tips to be quite helpful, if not humorous at times.
So, are you a gardener? If so, do you have any good tips to share? I'm just getting into it and can use any hints or tips you are willing to share with me!

(I purchased this book.)
